A detailed explanation of our Purpose § 1

 

It is our purpose to advance and balance the Academic Study of Esotericism.

The term ‘advance’ here implies:

a. to secure that the academic study of esotericism will continue and fruitfully evolve into an academic field in its own right, and b. to disseminate qualitative knowledge of esotericism to the wider public.

The term 'balance' here implies:

a. that we strive to secure a multifaceted approach to and understanding of esotericism. We seek to avoid one-sidedness and reductionism in the methodology for the study of esotericism. We therefore seek to encourage more than one method and approach to the academic study of esotericism.

b. Furthermore we seek to avoid limiting the study of esotericism to the West only as implied in the often used designation: 'Western esotericism'.
